Senior Geospatial Data Scientist (Satellite Imagery)

What you will do

• Develop geospatial models and pipelines that fuse AIS data with optical and SAR satellite imagery.
• Build detection, classification, prediction, and attribution models for vessel behavior, anomalies, and deceptive activity.
• Work with large-scale geospatial and time-series datasets, including AIS tracks, imagery, and vessel metadata.
• Take models from prototype through production and collaborate with engineering to deploy them on GCP.
• Investigate new data sources and methods for maritime domain awareness.
• Explain findings and model behavior to technical and non-technical stakeholders, including customers.

Requirements

• Strong background in geospatial data science, spatial data, coordinate systems, and geospatial analysis.
• Experience working with earth observation data, including electro-optical or synthetic aperture radar imagery.
• Computer vision experience with object detection or classification applied to imagery.
• Strong Python skills and practical experience with predictive modeling, classification, evaluation, and iteration.
• Ability to work independently, reason through ambiguous problems, and communicate technical approaches clearly.

Nice to have

• Experience with AIS vessel-tracking data.
• Familiarity with GCP, BigQuery, Vertex AI, or equivalent cloud data platforms.
• Experience with QGIS, GDAL, GeoPandas, PyTorch, scikit-learn, or similar tools.
• Background in maritime, defense, intelligence, or energy domains.
