Senior Applied Research Scientist (Computer Vision)

Location: Hybrid, Redwood City office three days per week

Salary: $180,000–$230,000 annually, plus equity

What you will do

• Design and optimize transformer-based vision-language models for images, videos, text, and real-time inference.
• Own the training pipeline from image-text pre-training through domain-specific fine-tuning for physical security use cases.
• Apply distillation, quantization, pruning, and related techniques to reduce model size and latency for edge deployment.
• Extend state-of-the-art open-source models and prototype new multimodal architectures and training methods.
• Collaborate with engineering and product teams to integrate models into the platform and improve them using deployment feedback.
• Design experiments, diagnose failure cases, and advance computer vision, NLP, and multimodal AI systems.

Requirements

• Ph.D. or master’s degree in computer science, electrical engineering, or a related field, with a strong foundation in AI and machine learning.
• Proficiency in Python and C++, with experience using PyTorch or TensorFlow and large-scale training pipelines.
• Hands-on experience with CNNs, Transformers, Vision Transformers, and vision-language models.
• Experience training and optimizing models on large datasets, including fine-tuning, distillation, quantization, or similar techniques.
• Strong prototyping, problem-solving, failure analysis, and solution iteration skills.
• Ability to work from the Redwood City office three days per week is required for the hybrid setup.

Nice to have

• Experience with foundation or multimodal models.
• Startup experience and comfort with ambiguity, rapid iteration, and end-to-end project ownership.
