Health Information Specialist I - Nacogdoches, TX

Location: Onsite in Nacogdoches, Texas; Monday to Friday, 8:00–16:30. Ability to commute between locations as needed.

What you will do

• Receive, log, process, retrieve, and transmit patient health information requests in accordance with company, facility, and HIPAA requirements.
• Maintain the confidentiality, security, accuracy, and completeness of medical records and patient charts.
• Prepare charts, gather documents from paper and electronic health records, assemble records in standard order, and create digital images for electronic storage.
• Handle inbound and outbound calls, voicemails, mail, faxes, data entry, patient walk-ins, and pickup scheduling.
• Use multiple software platforms and computer monitors while meeting site productivity expectations in a production-based environment.
• Report site difficulties and fluctuating workloads, manage changing priorities, and work with minimal supervision.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Professional verbal and written communication skills in English.
• Basic computer proficiency, strong data entry skills, and proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Comfort using phones, fax machines, printers, and other office equipment.
• Strong attention to detail and quality when handling confidential medical information.
• Must be able to work onsite in Nacogdoches, commute between locations as needed, and work overtime during peak periods when required.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of HIPAA and medical terminology.
• Familiarity with electronic health record and billing systems.
• Experience with subpoenas, healthcare environments, production or metric-based work, or in-person customer service.
• Ability to build relationships with onsite clients and customers.
