Duopoly Assignment Desk Editor (Broadcast News)

Location: 30 Rockefeller Plaza, New York, New York; must be willing to work in NYC. The role requires flexible availability for weekends, holidays, overnights, and any 24/7 shift, including short-notice call-ins.

What you will do

• Coordinate news coverage, assignments, reporters, photographers, and field crews across NBC 4 New York and Telemundo 47.
• React to breaking news by monitoring emergency scanners, contacts, social platforms, digital feeds, and electronic and printed sources.
• Use X, Instagram, TikTok, Meta, Dataminr, and related tools for real-time newsgathering, source identification, and visual verification.
• Partner with digital, production, management, and newsroom teams to deliver live feeds, instant information, visual assets, and coverage updates.
• Develop story ideas, make front-line editorial decisions, participate in planning meetings, and coordinate short-range editorial priorities.
• Set up and manage live remotes, maintain field communication, and distribute WNJU stories to affiliates and Latin America.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or Communications.
• At least four years of experience in broadcast news, assignment coordination, and generating story ideas.
• At least two years of experience as an Assignment Editor.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
• Unrestricted work authorization in the United States is required.
• Strong news judgment, organization, problem-solving, communication, and decision-making skills under tight deadlines.

Nice to have

• Bilingual Spanish/English communication skills.
• Show producing or field producing experience.
• Knowledge of deploying personnel and equipment for electronic newsgathering.
