Audience Engagement Editor

Location: Washington, DC preferred; candidates in the Mountain and Pacific time zones may also be considered. Onsite role with mandatory nights and weekends.

Salary: $75,000–$80,000 annually, based on experience.

What you will do

• Edit copy, strengthen headlines, and write concise SEO and breaking-news content.
• Assign stories and communicate story ideas and real-time feedback to editors and reporters.
• Publish breaking news across social media, email, app alerts, and other distribution channels.
• Identify search and social trends early and develop content to increase audience reach and traffic performance.
• Coach reporters and editors on audience development, word choice, headlines, and brand voice.
• Create or incorporate video content and help expand the social presence across emerging platforms.

Requirements

• Fast, accurate, detail-oriented writing and strong editing skills.
• Experience writing, editing, and publishing in a fast-paced newsroom with strong news judgment.
• Experience coaching reporters and developing editor skills.
• Bachelor's degree in journalism or communications, or newsroom experience.
• Experience publishing across multiple social media platforms and creating video content.
• Proficiency with traffic and engagement tools such as Chartbeat, SocialFlow, Google Analytics, Later, or Google Search Console.
