NewsNation -Assignment Desk Editor (New York)

Location: New York, NY; onsite at the New York offices

Compensation: $36.05–$40.86 per hour, commensurate with experience.

NewsNation is a 24/7 national cable news network supported by Nexstar television stations and newsroom resources.

What you will do

• Manage the national assignment desk across morning, dayside, primetime, weekday, holiday, and modified shifts.
• Identify and research stories relevant to a national audience, verify information with sources, and report out developing stories.
• Gather video, audio, photographs, and other editorial elements using file-sharing platforms and available reporting resources.
• Coordinate breaking, continuing, and daily news coverage with correspondents, producers, photojournalists, field teams, and Nexstar stations.
• Monitor social media, competitive broadcasts, cable and digital platforms, and clear user-generated content.
• Support live and taped feeds by coordinating transmission facilities and satellite space, while communicating rights and clearance restrictions.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in journalism or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
• Five to ten years of newsroom experience, ideally in national news or a top local market.
• Strong writing, organizational, communication, and people skills.
• Excellent attention to detail, initiative, and the ability to contribute story ideas.
• Willingness to work extended or modified shifts, weekdays, and holidays as news developments require.
• Must join the News Guild upon hire because this is a union position.
