TL;DR
Mechanical Engineer (Material Testing): Designing custom machine frames, test fixtures, and safety guarding for material testing solutions with an accent on machine design, manufacturability, and cross-functional engineering. Focus on leading projects from concept through customer delivery, conducting system testing and design verification, and integrating pneumatic, hydraulic, motion control, and machine safety systems.

Location: Norwood, Massachusetts, United States. Primarily onsite in an office environment, with periodic exposure to manufacturing and occasional domestic and international travel.

Salary: $91,200–$117,600 per year.

What you will do

  • Design custom frames, test fixtures, safety guarding, and machine integration solutions.
  • Lead engineering projects from concept through customer delivery and implementation.
  • Contribute across quoting, design, procurement, manufacturing, testing, installation, and support.
  • Collaborate with engineering, sales, production, manufacturing, assembly, testing, service teams, vendors, suppliers, and customers.
  • Provide input on materials, finishes, manufacturing processes, design specifications, and project schedules.
  • Set up and conduct system tests, collect data, perform statistical analysis, and prepare reports.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering and 3+ years of engineering experience in a design or manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with machine elements, mechanical drive systems, kinematic principles or mechanisms, ergonomics, and design for cost and manufacturability.
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks for models, drawings, and FEA.
  • Experience with or knowledge of pneumatic systems, hydraulic systems, motion control, and machine safety systems.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, meet tight schedules, and communicate effectively in a collaborative environment.
  • Knowledge of materials testing or willingness to learn the field.

Nice to have

  • Project Management Professional certification.
  • Understanding of Electrical Engineering.
