Senior Counsel - Patent Medicinal/Pharmaceutical Chemistry (Biotechnology)

Location: United States - Remote; remote work is also available from hirify.global locations in Thousand Oaks, California; Cambridge, Massachusetts; or South San Francisco, California.

Salary: $250,321.60–$338,670.40 annual base salary in the U.S., excluding Puerto Rico. Actual compensation depends on skills, experience, and qualifications.

What you will do

• Work with scientists to identify patentable subject matter.
• Draft, file, and prosecute patent applications worldwide.
• Conduct prior art searches, analyze patents, and prepare freedom-to-operate opinions.
• Support licensing due diligence and negotiate and draft research agreements.
• Advise R&D and business partners on intellectual property matters.
• Assist with litigation-related matters, including PTAB proceedings, oppositions, and patent challenges.

Requirements

• J.D. or LL.M. degree from an accredited law school.
• Admission to practice law in a U.S. jurisdiction and registration to practice before the USPTO.
• At least four years of intellectual property law experience.
• Strong analytical, legal drafting, oral, and written communication skills.
• Ability to prioritize work, meet demanding deadlines, manage multidimensional projects, and work independently and collaboratively.

Nice to have

• Ten or more years of patent or intellectual property law experience.
• Experience with U.S. and foreign intellectual property law in biotechnology at a law firm or biotechnology or pharmaceutical corporation.
• Master’s degree or Ph.D. in organic or medicinal chemistry.
• Experience with patent litigation, inter partes reviews, post-grant reviews, oppositions, or other adversarial proceedings.
• Management, leadership, and client service experience.
