TL;DR
Senior Hardware Design Engineer, Ethernet Switching (High-Speed Networking Hardware): Designing high-power, high-density Ethernet switches for enterprise campuses, hyperscale datacenters, and AI clusters with an accent on 100G/200G PAM4 Ethernet, complex PCB design, and signal and power integrity. Focus on taking networking hardware from functional specifications and schematic capture through prototype bring-up, system debug, and mass production.

Location: Santa Clara, CA, USA

Total estimated annual compensation: $300,000–$655,000. Base salary: $180,000–$275,000.

What you will do

  • Author functional specifications for high-power, high-density Ethernet switches used in AI networks.
  • Select and qualify components, capture flat and hierarchical schematics, and coordinate PCB layout and component footprints with eCAD teams.
  • Run signal integrity simulations for power and datapath signals, and specify PCB stackups and fabrication requirements.
  • Collaborate with local and overseas contract manufacturers from prototype through production, including manufacturing training and yield improvement.
  • Bring up and debug prototypes in the lab, driving complex issues across software, hardware, and test teams.
  • Guide engineering groups and mentor less-experienced engineers.

Requirements

  • BSEE or MSEE and 10+ years of relevant hardware engineering experience.
  • Experience designing networking hardware, especially 100G and 200G PAM4 Ethernet switching products.
  • Experience designing 20+ layer boards with 50G+ signals, sequential lamination, HDI, and ultra-low-loss materials.
  • Experience with multi-phase DC/DC converters, DDR, PCIe, signal integrity and power integrity concepts, and related tools such as TDRs and VNAs.
  • Experience with complex schematics, CAD collaboration, FPGA design and system simulation using Verilog, DFM, contract manufacturers, and taking products from concept to production.

Nice to have

  • Embedded x86/ARM system design experience.
