Maintenance Controls Engineer (EV Manufacturing)

Location: Garden Grove, California, United States. Onsite support for advanced EV manufacturing lines, with schedule flexibility for European time-zone overlap.

Salary: $140,000–$180,000 USD per year.

What you will do

• Troubleshoot, program, and maintain Siemens and Allen-Bradley PLCs, HMIs, and safety controllers.
• Configure and maintain Ignition SCADA screens, tag structures, alarm pipelines, and system interfaces.
• Support machine-controls integration with MES and diagnose industrial networks including EtherNet/IP, Profinet, OPC-UA, Modbus, and CAN.
• Collaborate with equipment and manufacturing engineers and OEMs on installations, commissioning, transfers, repairs, FAT/SAT, and engineering changes.
• Lead continuous-improvement projects focused on cycle time, automation optimization, line balancing, uptime, and downtime reduction.
• Perform root-cause analysis, improve preventive and predictive maintenance, document control modifications, and support production ramp-ups.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in mechatronics, electrical engineering, automation/controls engineering, computer engineering, or a related field.
• 3–5 years of controls, automation, or maintenance engineering experience in automated manufacturing.
• Hands-on experience with Ignition SCADA and industrial machinery integration with MES platforms.
• Experience with Siemens TIA Portal, S7-1200/1500, Allen-Bradley ControlLogix and CompactLogix, basic SQL, and OPC-UA.
• Knowledge of 480VAC distribution, 24VDC controls, servo drives, vision systems, sensors, schematics, and P&IDs.
• Ability to read technical documentation in English and adapt working hours for European and local OEM support.

Nice to have

• Ignition Core or Gold Certification.
• Siemens or Rockwell automation certifications.
• Industrial robotics experience with Fanuc, ABB, or KUKA.
• EV assembly, battery manufacturing, or high-volume automotive experience.
• Six Sigma Green Belt certification.
