Research Specialist I

Location: Austin, Texas, United States; fieldwork, weekend work, and work beyond normal business hours may be required.

Salary: $5,000 per month.

What you will do

• Implement field efforts to collect wildlife data for sponsored research projects.
• Collate, curate, and analyze field data related to pathogens from feral swine, livestock, wildlife, and environmental sources.
• Trap, handle, and euthanize captured wild animals using approved safety practices.
• Maintain field equipment and prepare research reports.
• Operate agency vehicles, off-road equipment, and firearms safely.
• Coordinate and assist internal and external research partners.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Wildlife Management or a closely related field.
• Four years of relevant experience.
• Experience operating off-road vehicles and equipment, conducting animal trapping, and using firearms to euthanize wild animals.
• Ability to enter data using computers, communicate effectively, lift heavy objects, and exert heavy force.
• Ability to obtain a Class C Driver’s License.
• Grant-funded position; continued availability is contingent on grant funding.
