TL;DR
Unit Coordinator (40 hrs/week) - Emergency Department (Healthcare Administration): Coordinating patient activity, medical records, bed assignments, communications, and administrative operations in an emergency department with an accent on accurate documentation, patient flow, and cross-department coordination. Focus on transcribing physician orders, supporting emergency and STAT communications, maintaining unit information during electronic downtime, and facilitating admissions, transfers, and discharges.

Location: Onsite at Tufts Medical Center

Pay range: $18.81–$23.51 per hour, based on full-time equivalent

What you will do

  • Coordinate patient flow, admissions, transfers, discharges, bed assignments, and bed-cleaning requests.
  • Receive, greet, direct, and communicate with patients, visitors, physicians, and hospital personnel.
  • Assemble, maintain, update, and prepare patient charts and medical records according to hospital policy.
  • Enter and verify orders, transcribe physician orders, update patient and bed information, and generate reports using hospital systems.
  • Answer and triage calls, relay messages, and coordinate communication with clinical, case management, social work, and external service teams.
  • Support emergency and STAT requests, electronic downtime procedures, supplies and equipment tracking, time records, and training of new unit coordinators.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Strong interpersonal, phone, written communication, organization, prioritization, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to handle detailed and confidential information independently and work with patients, physicians, staff, vendors, and community members.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and computer-based hospital systems.
  • Extensive knowledge of medical terminology for communication and physician-order transcription.
  • Ability to work a rotating schedule covering day and evening shifts and every other weekend; typical schedules include 2 twelve-hour and 2 eight-hour shifts or five eight-hour shifts.

Nice to have

  • One year of customer service experience in a healthcare or customer-facing setting.
  • Associate's degree.
