TL;DR
Tribal Nations Cybersecurity Intern (Threat Intelligence, SOC, and Infrastructure Security): Supporting cybersecurity projects for Tribal governments and critical infrastructure with an accent on vulnerability management, threat intelligence, incident response, and compliance mapping. Focus on analyzing CVE and SIEM data, mapping threats to MITRE ATT&CK, investigating alerts, developing security documentation, and presenting a capstone project to leadership and Tribal stakeholders.

Location: Hybrid in Albuquerque, United States

Salary: $20 per hour plus a $500 monthly support stipend

What you will do

  • Work with security analysts, threat intelligence researchers, and vulnerability management engineers on real-world client and Tribal government projects.
  • Analyze cybersecurity threats, vulnerabilities, and security events using AI-driven platforms, SIEM, EDR, and vulnerability scanners.
  • Review scan results, analyze CVE and NVD data, prioritize risks by severity and exploitability, and track remediation.
  • Research threats, gather indicators of compromise, map activity to the MITRE ATT&CK framework, and prepare intelligence briefs.
  • Support alert triage, incident enrichment, preliminary investigations, and security documentation under senior analyst supervision.
  • Complete and present a capstone project focused on Tribal infrastructure or sovereignty data protection.

Requirements

  • Coursework or self-study in cybersecurity, computer networking, computer science, information technology, or a related field.
  • Current enrollment in or recent graduation from an accredited two-year college, four-year university, Tribal college, or vocational program.
  • Familiarity with Windows, Linux, or macOS and basic computer and technology skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a distributed remote team.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States and must not require current or future employment visa sponsorship.

Nice to have

  • Exposure to Wireshark, Nmap, Nessus, Splunk, or similar tools.
  • Cybersecurity certifications or training such as CompTIA Security+, Google Cybersecurity Certificate, or SANS courses.
