Software Engineer II (Android + WWAN + AI)

Location: Holtsville, New York, United States; hybrid work. Travel requirements are up to 15%.

Salary: $86,080–$129,120 annual, plus a target performance-based cash incentive equal to 10% of base pay.

What you will do

• Provide technical support for Zebra Android mobile computing products, focusing on Android Framework, BSP, cellular connectivity, and modem performance.
• Diagnose complex Android system-level software issues through deep log analysis and AOSP source-code debugging.
• Isolate and troubleshoot issues in the Android Telephony framework, Radio Interface Layer, and cellular modem layers.
• Collaborate with network carriers and chipset vendors such as Qualcomm on interoperability, IMS/VoLTE, and data-throughput escalations.
• Build and integrate AI-driven tools for automated diagnostics, including modem log parsing and workflow automation.
• Work with customers, software engineering, system testing, and product management to resolve issues, improve products, and create technical documentation and training materials.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline.
• 2+ years of relevant software engineering experience, including significant customer-facing or support experience.
• Hands-on experience navigating, modifying, and debugging Android AOSP source code.
• Proficiency in applied AI and in building AI-based workflow automation tools.
• Strong programming skills in Java, C, C++, and Python, with an understanding of object-oriented programming.
• Experience with Android debugging, root-cause analysis, Git or Gerrit, CI/CD pipelines, network traffic, and cellular log analysis.

Nice to have

• Experience with WWAN technologies including 4G/LTE, 5G, 3GPP standards, and cellular modem architecture.
• Experience with Qualcomm WWAN chipsets and diagnostic tools such as QXDM and QCAT.
• Advanced degree in a relevant discipline.
