Automation Engineer Machine Maintenance (Injection Molding)

Location: Richmond, United States; hybrid work with an average of 3 days per week in the office

What you will do

• Monitor, troubleshoot, maintain, and optimize automation and control systems used in injection molding.
• Provide technical support for PLCs, HMIs, industrial networks, sensors, actuators, drives, robotics, and machine control systems.
• Investigate equipment failures affecting safety, quality, and uptime; perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
• Maintain troubleshooting guides, work instructions, electrical documentation, PLC backups, and technical records.
• Support automation upgrades, machine retrofits, commissioning, testing, validation, and continuous improvement projects.
• Collaborate with Maintenance, Production, Engineering, and Quality teams and train technicians and production personnel.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related technical field is preferred.
• Professional experience in industrial automation, controls engineering, manufacturing maintenance, or a related field.
• Experience troubleshooting PLCs, HMIs, industrial communication networks, sensors, actuators, drives, and machine control systems.
• Strong knowledge of electrical systems, automation hardware, and industrial control systems.
• Experience with injection molding equipment, automated manufacturing systems, and industrial robotics such as Fanuc, ABB, KUKA, or similar.
• Familiarity with Allen-Bradley/Rockwell, Siemens, or similar PLC platforms, plus predictive maintenance and reliability improvement methods.
