Claim Examiner II - Program Claims

Location: Hybrid role in Richmond, Virginia, United States; travel required as necessary, approximately 10–20%

Salary: $62,400–$107,250 per year, plus potential eligibility for the company's annual incentive plan.

What you will do

• Investigate, analyze, negotiate, and settle moderate-complexity primary and excess casualty and workers compensation claims.
• Analyze coverage under insurance policies, make coverage determinations, and draft coverage correspondence.
• Manage nationwide litigation against insureds, including appointing and directing defense counsel and pursuing economical claim resolution.
• Coordinate with underwriting, claims vendors, disbursement, legal collections, and other internal business partners.
• Communicate significant case developments, summarize complex issues, and develop action plans.
• Support internal initiatives, agent meetings, and the training and development of claims examiners.

Requirements

• Minimum 4 years of insurance experience.
• College degree required; professional designations preferred.
• Strong written and oral communication, analytical, negotiation, and independent caseload-management skills.
• Sound understanding of casualty and excess liability coverage, contractual obligations, investigations, and coverage analysis.
• Experience managing complex litigation, setting loss and expense reserves, and evaluating settlement values.
• US work authorization required; visa sponsorship is not available now or in the future.

• Experience working with third-party administrators, managing general agents, or managing general underwriters.
• Insurance coverage litigation experience.
• Professional insurance designations.
