Finance Process Documentation Consultant (Finance)

Location: Remote, aligned to Pacific Time. Conditions: Mountain View, California, United States.

Pay rate: $65–$75 per hour, depending on experience.

What you will do

• Map and document complex end-to-end finance and business processes across multiple functional teams.
• Interview stakeholders to understand workflows, ownership, dependencies, controls, and decision-making.
• Trace data from source systems through transformations, business rules, handoffs, and downstream outputs.
• Review SQL scripts, spreadsheets, lookups, matching logic, and manual data processes.
• Create process narratives, workflow diagrams, visual process maps, and current-state documentation using Lucidchart, Visio, Google Workspace, or Microsoft Office.
• Identify undocumented procedures, operational risks, inefficiencies, and opportunities supporting transformation, governance, and automation.

Requirements

• Strong understanding of finance, accounting, business operations, or enterprise systems.
• Experience documenting complex finance business processes and translating stakeholder knowledge into written and visual deliverables.
• Ability to read and understand SQL queries and data transformations.
• Experience with spreadsheets, data analysis, lookups, and data transformation logic.
• Experience creating process maps, workflow diagrams, standard operating procedures, or current-state assessments.
• Strong analytical, communication, stakeholder management, synthesis, and problem-solving skills.

Nice to have

• Experience creating or modifying SQL.
• Experience supporting process improvement, transformation, governance, or automation initiatives.
• Consulting mindset and ability to work independently in an evolving environment.
