Staff Technology Development Engineer (MEMS)

Location: On-site in Bloomington, Minnesota, USA. The position may require U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residency status in the future, depending on federal requirements.

Salary: $100,000–$135,000 annual base salary.

What you will do

• Develop, transfer, optimize, and document semiconductor process flows and macro modules for MEMS and optoelectronics devices.
• Design experiments, analyze process simulations and test-lot results, and determine process sequences and parameters that achieve target device performance.
• Work with Process Engineering to develop, characterize, and optimize process modules, including support for initial test-chip and transfer-lot processing.
• Characterize integrated semiconductor devices and reliability of circuit and process elements using electrical, in-process, and visual inspection data.
• Collaborate with Device Engineers on layout rules, test structures, and test-chip mask sets.
• Manage project schedules and mitigation plans, provide regular development updates to external customers, and support quality, safety, environmental, yield, and cost initiatives.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, or Physics; a PhD is also relevant.
• Typically, 5–7 years of experience with a Master’s degree or 3–4 years with a PhD.
• Knowledge of semiconductor device physics, process integration, fabrication processes, device characterization, layout design, and reliability testing.
• Experience with MEMS fabrication, including DRIE etching, VHF/BOE release etching, and front- and back-side processing.
• Skills in design of experiments, statistical data analysis, problem solving, technical writing, and communication.
• Working knowledge of UNIX and willingness to work around hazardous chemicals, high voltages, and high equipment temperatures.
