Mainframe Systems Engineer III (z/OS)

Location: Columbus, OH; office workplace

Salary: USD 70,000–140,000 annual base compensation, plus eligibility for applicable incentive compensation.

What you will do

• Install, customize, maintain, and troubleshoot z/OS, z/VM, zSeries hardware, and infrastructure software in Parallel Sysplex environments.
• Design and support secure, highly available mainframe network connectivity, including TCP/IP, SNA/APPN, routing, encryption, and certificate management.
• Perform problem determination, packet-trace analysis, debugging, tuning, performance management, and capacity planning.
• Develop technical definitions, reference models, blueprints, playbooks, automation, and pre- and post-implementation impact documentation.
• Provide technical direction and education to programmers, analysts, infrastructure resources, support associates, vendors, and management.
• Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation and identify improvements that reduce recurring issues and mean time to recovery.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in mainframe engineering.
• 5–10 years of solid z/OS engineering experience; 10–15 years of mainframe network engineering experience is also specified.
• Advanced or expert SMP/E experience and strong TCP/IP, SNA/APPN, TCP, UDP, ICMP, and routing-protocol skills.
• Experience with IBM zEnterprise hardware, z/OS Communication Server Policy Based Networking, z/VM SSL Server, packet traces, and mainframe connectivity design.
• Experience with encryption technologies, certificate management, AT-TLS, and IPsec policy development and implementation.
• Ability to work in the Columbus, OH office and participate in 24x7 on-call support.

• MainView, z/OSMF, ChangeMan, Coupling Facility, storage management, WLM, and z/OS installation and customization experience.
• Performance and capacity reporting with zPCA, SAS/MXG, or Intellimagic.
• Banking industry business-process knowledge and experience coordinating with application programmers and users.
