Principal AI Engineer (MCP)

Location: Fully remote within the United States, operating on Eastern Time; expected hours are 9:00 AM–5:00 PM Eastern. Occasional travel for training and project meetings is expected at less than 5% per year.

Salary: $143,600–$205,000 per year.

What you will do

• Architect, develop, and operationalize agentic AI systems using advanced LLMs and Model Context Protocol frameworks.
• Build intelligent multi-step, tool-using agents that reason, plan, and execute complex workflows across cloud-based analytics ecosystems.
• Design agent orchestration frameworks, model-driven decision logic, tool interfaces, and production-grade agent capabilities.
• Deploy and integrate AI agents and LLM-enabled applications in Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud Platform environments.
• Provide technical leadership, develop proof-of-concept architectures, and translate experimental designs into production solutions.
• Partner with engineering and product teams to align AI solutions with business, customer, and mission requirements.

Requirements

• Must pass U.S. Federal Government public trust clearance. Candidates must be U.S. citizens or qualify through the Foreign National Government System.
• Foreign national candidates must have lived in the United States for at least 3 of the previous 5 years and provide a valid passport and appropriate visa/work permit documentation.
• Bachelor’s degree and 10+ years of software engineering experience.
• Production experience with agentic AI, planning, tool utilization, workflow orchestration, multi-step reasoning, and autonomous task execution.
• Experience with MCP integrations, LLM development practices, fine-tuning, RAG, prompt engineering, APIs, microservices, distributed computing, and cloud-native architectures.
• Proficiency in Python, MLOps/LLMOps, version control, CI/CD, automated testing, deployment automation, monitoring, and governance.

Nice to have

• Experience with multi-agent systems, agent swarms, dynamic tool selection, graph-structured planners, and autonomous-system benchmarking.
• Knowledge of LLM performance optimization, including caching, model distillation, model routing, or accelerated inference.
• Experience with Databricks, Snowflake, Spark, Strands Agents, LangGraph, or CrewAI.
• Experience designing secure, compliance-aware AI systems handling PHI under HIPAA and federal security standards.
• Experience with guardrails, validation layers, constrained-action frameworks, or fast-paced AI research and development.
