Texas A&M University’s Comparative Medicine Program provides laboratory animal care, veterinary services, research support, surgical facilities, animal procurement, and animal-use training.

What you will do

  • Perform husbandry duties for laboratory animals.
  • Sanitize assigned animal holding rooms.
  • Maintain assigned support areas.
  • Handle, move, push, and pull heavy objects and carts.
  • Report to work during declared emergencies, campus closures, or class cancellations unless relieved by a supervisor.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Level I: six months of related laboratory animal care experience; a formal Laboratory Animal Science Course may substitute for three months.
  • Level II: one year of related laboratory animal care experience; a formal Laboratory Animal Science Course may substitute for three months.
  • Level III: two years of related laboratory animal care experience; a formal Laboratory Animal Science Course may substitute for three months.
  • Ability to tolerate standing, bending, stretching, walking, and moving, and no allergies to animals, latex, waste products, or bedding.
  • Class C vehicle operator’s license or ability to obtain one within 30 days of employment.

Nice to have

  • Completion of a CMP Laboratory Animal Science Course or completion within the first year.
  • American Association of Laboratory Animal Science Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) certification.
