Texas A&M University’s Comparative Medicine Program provides laboratory animal care, veterinary services, research support, surgical facilities, animal procurement, and animal-use training.
What you will do
- Perform husbandry duties for laboratory animals.
- Sanitize assigned animal holding rooms.
- Maintain assigned support areas.
- Handle, move, push, and pull heavy objects and carts.
- Report to work during declared emergencies, campus closures, or class cancellations unless relieved by a supervisor.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Level I: six months of related laboratory animal care experience; a formal Laboratory Animal Science Course may substitute for three months.
- Level II: one year of related laboratory animal care experience; a formal Laboratory Animal Science Course may substitute for three months.
- Level III: two years of related laboratory animal care experience; a formal Laboratory Animal Science Course may substitute for three months.
- Ability to tolerate standing, bending, stretching, walking, and moving, and no allergies to animals, latex, waste products, or bedding.
- Class C vehicle operator’s license or ability to obtain one within 30 days of employment.
Nice to have
- Completion of a CMP Laboratory Animal Science Course or completion within the first year.
- American Association of Laboratory Animal Science Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) certification.
