TL;DR
Staff Engineer, Propulsion Systems Advance Manufacturing (R5185) (Aerospace Propulsion Manufacturing): Developing and scaling manufacturing processes for engines, fuel and oil systems, pumps, and aerospace propulsion hardware with an accent on manufacturability, reliability, testability, and production readiness. Focus on leading DFM/DFA reviews, solving manufacturing issues through root cause analysis and corrective actions, and transitioning prototype hardware into production.

Location: Seattle, Washington; on-site

Salary: $150,000–$230,000 per year, plus bonus, benefits, and equity for regular employees.

What you will do

  • Lead manufacturing engineering support for propulsion and fluid system assemblies from development through production.
  • Develop and optimize manufacturing processes, tooling, work instructions, production flows, and inspection methods for engines, fuel and oil systems, pumps, tanks, and thrust systems.
  • Partner with design engineering on DFM/DFA, manufacturability, reliability, testability, producibility, and new-product introduction.
  • Investigate manufacturing issues, perform root cause analysis, and drive corrective actions and reliability improvements.
  • Support supplier qualification, process validation, production readiness reviews, system integration, testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Collaborate with production, quality, supply chain, and test engineering teams while mentoring junior manufacturing engineers.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of manufacturing engineering experience supporting propulsion or fluid systems.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related field.
  • Experience with engine assembly and integration, fuel and oil systems, precision fluid system manufacturing, and aerospace propulsion hardware.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing process development, production scaling, DFM/DFA, root cause analysis, and corrective action methodologies.
  • Experience with prototype manufacturing in a startup or rapid-growth environment and the ability to work in a fast-paced setting.
  • Experience with MES and QMS systems, PLM systems such as 3DEXPERIENCE or Teamcenter, supplier manufacturing processes, 5S, visual management, and SOPs.

Nice to have

  • Aerospace or defense industry experience, including turbine, piston, hybrid-electric, or UAV propulsion systems.
  • Knowledge of pressure systems, leak testing, fluid handling, lean manufacturing, and production optimization.
  • Experience with ERP/MES systems, manufacturing data analysis, quality standards such as AS9100 or ISO 9001, and CAD software.
  • Project management experience handling multiple priorities and deadlines.
