System Protection Technician Specialist (Electric Power Systems)

Location: Golden, Colorado, United States; onsite work in electric transmission and distribution substations, with extensive out-of-town travel, overnight stays, after-hours callouts, adverse weather, heights, and confined spaces.

Starting pay: $62.81 per hour.

What you will do

• Ensure the safe, reliable, and cost-efficient operation and protection of electric power production and delivery systems.
• Commission, test, maintain, program, calibrate, analyze, troubleshoot, and repair protective relaying equipment.
• Work with area metering, telemetry, and power control/monitoring equipment in transmission and distribution substations.
• Investigate equipment issues and make sound technical decisions based on analysis and due diligence.
• Coordinate assigned tasks and schedules with internal and external customers while maintaining strong working relationships.
• Respond to emergency assignments, scheduled and unscheduled callouts, and extended field deployments.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Associate degree or certification in Electronics Technology, Applied Electronic Engineering, or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent education and experience.
• At least 5 years of experience operating, maintaining, and testing system protective or power control equipment.
• Working knowledge of computer systems, operating system software, and protective relaying and power control equipment applications.
• Availability for after-hours work, emergency response, weekend callouts, extensive travel, and overnight stays is required.
• Ability to lift, move, and carry equipment weighing up to 70 pounds and travel in adverse weather conditions.
