Senior Energy Engineer (AI)

Location: United States — Remote; travel required

Salary: $140,000–$203,400 annually, plus potential incentives, bonuses, commissions, or equity depending on the role.

What you will do

• Evaluate energy savings and demand-reduction opportunities involving operational changes, HVAC systems, heating and cooling plants, and distributed energy resources.
• Analyze 15-minute and hourly utility and sub-meter data to characterize load profiles, identify demand-charge drivers, and detect anomalies.
• Execute monitoring-based commissioning workflows, establish baselines, monitor performance, and verify savings persistence.
• Develop campus metering specifications and single-line diagrams, oversee commissioning, and integrate meters with EMIS/DAS platforms.
• Configure and manage FDD rule sets, prioritize fault alerts, estimate fault impacts, and support operations and maintenance decisions.
• Lead MBCx, FDD, EMIS, and related project teams; prepare technical reports, presentations, and proposals for technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, energy systems, computer science, or a related STEM field.
• At least 7 years of experience in energy engineering, building performance analysis, or a related discipline.
• Experience with data-driven modeling, interval meter data analysis, energy efficiency, and demand reduction.
• Hands-on experience troubleshooting, retro-commissioning, or monitoring-based commissioning of HVAC systems and central heating and cooling plants.
• Working knowledge of advanced data analysis and visualization tools such as Python or R, measurement and verification methods, and BAS/BMS platforms.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, customer-facing ability, independent work style, and willingness to travel.

Nice to have

• CEM, CMVP, or CCP certification.
• Prior consulting experience.
• Experience using AI tools in an energy engineering context.
