Department Director - Data Science (Cancer Research)

Location: Boston, Massachusetts, United States; hybrid work with 2–3 days onsite per week

Salary: $175,900–$196,900 per year

What you will do

• Oversee departmental administration, finance, operations, human resources, and compliance functions.
• Manage research grants, clinical trial funding, budgets, financial reporting, deficits, and donor fund stewardship.
• Lead staffing, faculty searches, appointments, promotions, performance processes, and personnel issue resolution.
• Advise the Department Chair and institutional leadership on strategic initiatives, policies, support systems, and growth opportunities.
• Manage space planning, capital requests, renovations, events, inventory, equipment, and operational workflows.
• Ensure compliance with institutional policies, patient confidentiality and data security requirements, scientific misconduct standards, and ACGME fellowship accreditation.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree required; a master’s degree is preferred.
• At least 10 years of experience in a related field.
• At least 3 years of people management experience.
• Expertise in budgeting, financial projections, complex awards, and departmental financial reporting.
• Strong communication, critical thinking, organization, delegation, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills.
• Advanced computer literacy, including Excel or Google Sheets, electronic document management, and institutional regulations and standard operating procedures.
