TL;DR
Senior Engine Code Engineer (MATLAB/Simulink): Creating and validating system-level code for internal combustion engines and generators with an accent on engine control, simulation, testing, and performance optimization. Focus on designing SiL and HiL co-simulation workflows, analyzing steady-state and transient behavior, and applying Python-based machine learning and predictive analytics to engine performance and emissions modeling.

Location: Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA. Full-time onsite role with regular standing and walking, occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds, and occasional travel.

What you will do

  • Create system-level engine code in MATLAB/Simulink for engine and generator design and development.
  • Analyze mechanical and energy systems through simulation, functional analysis, and performance testing.
  • Optimize steady-state and transient engine performance across gaseous-fueled applications.
  • Interpret test results and collaborate with cross-functional teams through code reviews and technical discussions.
  • Develop code analysis and software best practices, and document objectives, methods, and results.
  • Use Python-based scripting, machine learning, and predictive analytics to forecast code and engine performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • 5+ years of relevant professional experience.
  • Proficiency with MATLAB/Simulink for internal combustion engine systems, including steady-state and transient behavior, fault codes, SPNs, SAE J1939 CAN networks, sensor integration, and embedded systems.
  • Experience with automotive standards and co-simulation environments, including Software-in-the-Loop and Hardware-in-the-Loop.
  • Understanding of internal combustion engine design, operation, testing, generator design, and gaseous fuel systems.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, written, and verbal communication skills.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Advanced MATLAB/Simulink and Python experience in engine design, engineering analysis, and simulation.
  • Experience using ATI Vision for internal combustion engine calibration.
  • Expertise in engine control code, operational dynamics, advanced testing, and SiL/HiL real-time validation.
  • Experience applying machine learning and predictive analytics to engine performance and emissions modeling.
