TL;DR
Senior Solutions Architect / Sales Engineer (HPC & Computational Engineering): Partnering with commercial and engineering teams to evaluate compute-intensive customer workloads, design benchmarks, and guide technical evaluations for Bolt's GPU architecture with an accent on HPC, computational science, and performance analysis. Focus on identifying bottlenecks, validating performance or cost-performance advantages, translating customer requirements into engineering work, and determining technical fit before commercial progression.

Location: Sunnyvale, California; candidates must be located in the Bay Area and work onsite in the Sunnyvale offices. Travel is required at least 6–8 times per year for major conferences and team meetups.

Salary: $175,000–$200,000 annual base pay in California.

What you will do

  • Partner with the commercial lead on strategic customer engagements.
  • Lead technical discovery with engineering, HPC, research, and infrastructure teams.
  • Analyze workloads, compute environments, bottlenecks, performance requirements, and deployment constraints.
  • Design and coordinate benchmarks, proofs of concept, technical evaluations, and workload validation.
  • Translate customer requirements into technical requirements for the engineering organization and resolve technical blockers.
  • Develop reference architectures, benchmark methodologies, technical materials, and customer-facing documentation while representing Bolt at relevant industry events.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of relevant experience in solutions architecture, sales engineering, field applications engineering, HPC engineering, scientific computing, computational engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of HPC architectures, compute-intensive workloads, GPUs, accelerators, CPUs, heterogeneous computing, and high-performance computing systems.
  • Experience working directly with sophisticated technical customers and identifying workload performance bottlenecks.
  • Strong knowledge of benchmarking and performance analysis.
  • Ability to communicate complex architecture and performance concepts clearly to engineers and executives.
  • Must be located in the Bay Area and work onsite in Sunnyvale; relocation is not offered.

Nice to have

  • Computational electromagnetics, electromagnetic simulation, FDTD, FEM, MoM, or related numerical simulation methods.
  • CUDA, GPU programming, accelerator optimization, C/C++, Python, parallel computing, MPI, or distributed computing.
  • Performance profiling, optimization, large-memory scientific workloads, HPC clusters, or high-speed interconnects.
  • Experience with national laboratories, aerospace and defense, scientific computing organizations, major HPC environments, or commercial simulation software.
