Mechanical Design Engineering Intern (BESS)

Location: North Billerica, Massachusetts, United States; 5 days per week on-site

What you will do

• Support the design and development of mechanical components, modules, and assemblies for next-generation BESS products.
• Assist with prototyping, testing, and validation in laboratory and production environments.
• Create 3D CAD models and 2D engineering drawings under the guidance of senior engineers.
• Collaborate with design studio, hardware engineering, manufacturing engineering, quality, and operations.
• Prepare drawings, design records, and test reports.
• Own a defined project that delivers tangible value by the end of the internship.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• Foundational knowledge of mechanical design principles and strong problem-solving skills.
• Coursework or project experience with 3D CAD; SolidWorks is preferred.
• Familiarity with 2D drafting and engineering drawings.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills and strong attention to detail.
• Ability to work in a hands-on laboratory and prototype environment.

Nice to have

• Coursework in GD&T, tolerance analysis, or design for manufacturability.
• Experience designing or building physical products.
• Interest in BESS, solar photovoltaic, or clean energy technology.
• Exposure to rapid prototyping, including 3D printing or quick-turn mockups.
• Familiarity with structural FEA or simulation tools and prior engineering internship or co-op experience.
