Lab Technician or Associate, Comparative Medicine (2 Year Contract)

Location: Burnaby, Canada; onsite vivarium and laboratory work with occasional on-call coverage and work outside regular business hours, including limited weekends and holidays

Salary: CAD 55,387.70–74,936.30 per year

What you will do

• Perform rodent husbandry, including cage changing, cage washing, facility sanitation, and routine maintenance.
• Support veterinary health monitoring, triage, animal handling, and restraint activities.
• Develop and apply in vivo methods such as dosing, sample collection, and physiological monitoring while following study protocols.
• Support vivarium operations through 5S practices, inventory management, facility organization, and alarm response.
• Apply biosecurity principles and identify, resolve, or escalate routine technical and facility issues.
• Collaborate with managers, veterinarians, research partners, and colleagues while completing required data management and documentation.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree; or an associate’s degree with 2 years of laboratory rodent handling experience; or a high school diploma/GED with 4 years of laboratory rodent handling experience.
• Ability to provide occasional on-call coverage and work outside regular business hours, including limited weekend and holiday coverage.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, established procedures, and study protocols.
• Ability to work independently after training and seek guidance for unfamiliar or complex situations.
• Comfort with regular lifting and/or moving of up to 20 kg (50 lb).

Nice to have

• Relevant Bachelor of Science degree.
• RLAT certification through CALAS.
• Registered Veterinary Technologist/Technician certification.
• Research experience with vivarium operations.
