TL;DR
Communications Technical Writing and Editing Specialist II (Commercial Truck): Developing and editing technical documentation, service bulletins, repair instructions, and diagnostic procedures for truck drivers and service technicians with an accent on XML/DITA authoring, HTML and PDF publishing, and technical content accuracy. Focus on structuring complex manuals, interpreting engineering data, managing updates in PTC Windchill, and improving the readability of multi-format technical procedures.

Location: Portland, Oregon, United States. Hybrid schedule with 4 days per week in-office and 1 day remote. Candidates may work in or relocate to Portland; relocation assistance is not available.

Starting salary: $65,000–$83,000 USD annually, depending on knowledge, skills, and experience.

What you will do

  • Write technical documentation for products, systems, processes, equipment operations and maintenance, and research findings.
  • Package technical content from subject matter experts for truck drivers, service technicians, dealers, and fleet audiences.
  • Determine effective structures and layouts for complex manuals and service bulletins.
  • Research technical data, drawings, and specifications with engineering and technical staff.
  • Coordinate technical content and terminology reviews and incorporate updates and revisions.
  • Edit documentation to improve clarity, flow, meaning, impact, and readability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, writing, journalism, a related field, or a BS in mechanical engineering.
  • At least 2 years of technical content development or technical writing experience.
  • Experience developing and formatting technical manuals and service bulletins for dealer and fleet technicians.
  • Experience authoring HTML content or XML content in DITA format.
  • In-depth knowledge of English grammar and vocabulary.
  • Permanent legal authorization to work in the United States is required; visa sponsorship and applications from existing visa holders are not accepted. A resume attachment is required.

Nice to have

  • Familiarity with automotive or commercial truck systems and components.
  • Analytical skills and critical thinking.
  • Experience creating technical illustrations, diagrams, workflows, and visual documentation.
  • Project management experience with multiple short-turnaround, critical projects.
  • Experience with PTC Arbortext, PTC Windchill bookmaps and workflows, and technical procedures published in multiple formats.
