TL;DR
Spacecraft Flight Software Engineer II (C++): Developing reliable flight software for spacecraft, satellite buses, and reentry capsules with an accent on embedded processors, real-time systems, and safety-critical aerospace software. Focus on capturing requirements, designing and integrating software, performing verification and validation, and supporting spacecraft operations throughout the mission.

Location: On-site in El Segundo, California, United States. Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States and qualify as a U.S. person under ITAR requirements.

Salary: $144,020–$184,026 per year, plus potential stock options and/or long-term cash awards.

hirify.global develops commercial space infrastructure, including in-orbit pharmaceutical processing payloads, reentry capsules, heat shields, and satellite buses.

What you will do

  • Develop reliable flight software controlling spacecraft, satellite bus, and reentry capsule operations throughout the mission.
  • Write structured bare-metal, RTOS-based, and Linux-based software for embedded processors in C++.
  • Own software design, testing, integration, verification, and validation.
  • Scope projects, capture requirements, and perform initial design trade studies for open-ended problems.
  • Support system quality, performance, teamwork, communication, and problem-solving in a collaborative environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, mathematics, physics, engineering, or equivalent technical experience in safety-critical software.
  • 3+ years of experience developing spacecraft or similar safety-critical software.
  • Strong C++ development experience and understanding of core language concepts.
  • U.S. work authorization and U.S. person status are required for access to ITAR-controlled technology.

Nice to have

  • End-to-end experience building and launching a spacecraft.
  • Experience developing and testing real-time embedded systems and aerospace safety-critical software.
  • Experience with CCSDS telemetry and telecommand systems, F', or cFS.
  • Experience with Python or Rust and basic analog and digital electronics.
  • Familiarity with SPI, I2C, CAN, and EtherCAT.
