TL;DR
Associate Director, Business Strategy (Healthcare): Developing institute-wide strategies, long-range plans, business cases, and performance frameworks across clinical, research, education, and operational domains with an accent on healthcare financial modeling, scenario analysis, and cross-functional governance. Focus on evaluating strategic opportunities, building KPI dashboards, coordinating complex initiatives, and translating organizational priorities into measurable outcomes.

Location: Fully remote only from a New England state: Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut, or Rhode Island; occasional onsite work in Boston as needed.

Salary: $125,800–$146,200 per year

What you will do

  • Lead business strategy development and long-range planning across departments, service lines, disease centers, and business units.
  • Develop scenario analyses, initiative plans, implementation plans, and stakeholder engagement strategies.
  • Build business and funding cases for new programs, partnerships, capacity expansions, and technology investments.
  • Coordinate clinical operations, research, finance, education, and external partner input across complex initiatives.
  • Establish initiative charters, KPIs, dashboards, governance forums, and decision checkpoints.
  • Develop change strategies and executive-level communications and presentations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Healthcare, or a related field.
  • At least 7 years of experience in healthcare strategy, management consulting, investment banking, or administrative functions in an academic medical center or cancer center.
  • Advanced Excel-based financial modeling skills, including forecasts, pro formas, sensitivity analyses, and scenario analyses.
  • Experience working with large datasets and managing multiple complex initiatives.
  • Strong financial literacy in healthcare or research, with the ability to interpret financial statements and operational data.
  • Strong executive communication, facilitation, stakeholder management, judgment, and decision-making skills.

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree such as MHA, MBA, MPH, or a related field.
  • Experience in cancer care, academic medicine, research institutions, or clinical operations improvement.
  • Experience partnering with clinical leaders and improving patient care outcomes.
  • Knowledge of healthcare regulatory and payer requirements, including CMS policies.
