Embedded Software Engineer (Aerospace)

Location: Tokyo, Japan; hybrid workplace

Company

Develops lunar landers and spacecraft transportation systems, including the next-generation ULTRA lunar lander.

What you will do

• Develop embedded software systems for spacecraft, lunar landers, and related transportation-system components.
• Translate system-level requirements into software architecture, design, implementation, and verification activities.
• Design software architectures, select DSPs and microprocessors, develop BSPs, and evaluate design feasibility.
• Develop software for motion control, command and communication, power and data management, and fault protection.
• Perform coding, reviews, integration, testing, troubleshooting, documentation, and ongoing software improvements.
• Coordinate technical decisions, schedules, costs, quality, tasks, and issues with subsystem engineers, customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of experience designing and coding embedded software for high-reliability applications.
• Deep understanding of real-time operating systems and embedded software.
• Experience with bus, communication, and networking protocols such as RS-422, PCI, Ethernet, and SpaceWire.
• Proficiency in C and a bachelor's degree in computer science or an equivalent field.
• Strong communication and leadership skills when working with software engineers, subsystem engineers, and customers.
• Business-level English or business-level Japanese is required.

Nice to have

• Experience in aerospace, automotive, or another industry requiring highly reliable embedded software.
• At least 5 years of experience with Linux, Zephyr, or another real-time OS development environment.
• At least 5 years of experience using Git for software development.
• Experience developing real-time kernels and device drivers, and using bench equipment such as oscilloscopes and logic analyzers.
• Experience working in a startup environment and interest in new technologies and diverse teams.
