Senior Embedded Software Engineer (Aerospace)

Location: Tokyo, Japan; hybrid workplace

Developing the next-generation ULTRA lunar lander and other spacecraft transportation systems.

What you will do

• Develop embedded software systems for spacecraft, including lunar landers and transportation system elements.
• Lead the identification and decomposition of software requirements into architecture, design, and implementation.
• Design software architectures, select DSPs and microprocessors, develop BSPs, and evaluate design feasibility.
• Design, code, review, integrate, test, support, and enhance software for motion control, command, communications, power and data management, and fault protection.
• Collaborate with avionics, ground segment, system engineering, suppliers, customers, and other design teams on technology selection and integration.
• Lead software engineers while managing assigned schedules, costs, quality, tasks, issues, and technical documentation.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience designing and coding embedded software for high-reliability applications.
• Deep understanding of real-time operating systems and embedded software.
• Proficiency in C programming.
• Experience with bus, communication, and networking protocols such as RS-422, PCI, Ethernet, and SpaceWire.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or an equivalent qualification.
• Business-level English or business-level Japanese.

Nice to have

• Experience in aerospace, automotive, or another high-reliability industry.
• 5+ years of experience with Linux, Zephyr, or another real-time operating system development environment.
• 5+ years of experience using Git and continuous integration.
• Experience with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, meters, and other bench equipment.
• 5+ years of experience as a software team lead or architect.
