What you will do

• Provide clinical care and treatment to research animals under the direction of technical services leadership and the attending veterinarian.
• Handle, restrain, identify, and monitor common laboratory animals, including ear notching, tagging, tattooing, and toe clipping.
• Monitor animal colonies for injured, sick, moribund, or deceased animals and report findings.
• Maintain animal health records, electronic cage cards, census data, breeding records, transgenic data, and operational logs.
• Support sentinel animal collection and accurate identification for pathogen testing at Charles River Laboratories.
• Assist with overcrowded cage separation, quarantine transfers, and intramural animal transfers and exports/imports.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required; BA/BS preferred.
• At least one year of experience working in an AAALAC-accredited laboratory animal facility.
• Willingness to learn IP, IV, and SQ injections, oral gavage, and blood collection.
• Organized, meticulous record keeping and basic computer literacy with word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
• Ability to communicate and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team.
• Ability to work 100% onsite in Boston, Massachusetts.

Nice to have

• AALAS Laboratory Animal Technician (LAT) certification.
• Bachelor’s degree.
• Computer literacy in database record keeping for laboratory animal operations.
