Section Head - Analytical Chemistry (Analytical Chemistry)

Location: College Station, Texas, United States. The position is eligible for a partially remote work arrangement of up to 16 hours per week; laboratory work, bench work, and occasional in-state travel are required.

What you will do

• Lead daily operations of the Analytical Chemistry Section, including diagnostic testing, workflow coordination, budgets, equipment, and personnel management.
• Oversee complex routine and non-routine assays, interpret results, coordinate cases, and release accurate laboratory reports within required turnaround times.
• Develop, validate, and implement new assays, technologies, diagnostic capabilities, and process improvements.
• Maintain quality assurance, safety, SOP, documentation, inventory, and regulatory compliance programs.
• Communicate with veterinarians, animal owners, agricultural stakeholders, industry representatives, and regulatory agencies regarding test requests and results.
• Recruit, supervise, train, evaluate, and mentor chemists, technicians, supervisors, and other section staff.

Requirements

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, or a master’s/PhD in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• At least five years of related experience.
• Advanced knowledge of analytical chemistry or a section-specific discipline, laboratory quality assurance, and safety programs.
• Ability to perform assays independently, make complex decisions, troubleshoot problems, and manage laboratory staff.
• Ability to work in a laboratory environment with chemicals, biological materials, instrumentation, standing, and lifting 25–40 pounds.
• Valid Texas motor vehicle operator’s license or ability to obtain one within 30 days of employment.

Nice to have

• DVM with ABVT board certification or eligibility, or PhD with ABT board certification or eligibility.
• Seven or more years of experience in veterinary toxicology or drug-testing laboratories and prior laboratory management experience.
• Experience with LC/MS, ICP/MS, GC/MS, ISO/IEC 17025, AAVLD accreditation, QA/QC systems, and LIMS.
