Legal Counsel (Real Estate)

What you will do

• Structure, draft, and negotiate complex real estate transactions including purchase agreements, ground leases, and financing.
• Build the foundation for the legal real estate function, including creating form agreements and managing a network of local counsel.
• Lead complex negotiations with sophisticated counterparties, balancing legal risk with business speed.
• Manage outside counsel across multiple disciplines to ensure quality and cost-efficiency.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with site selection, development, and finance teams to drive deal execution.

Requirements

• Must hold an active license to practice law in at least one US jurisdiction.
• Extensive experience as lead attorney in complex commercial real estate development, including land acquisition, zoning, and construction.
• Proven ability to make pragmatic, high-stakes legal decisions in ambiguous environments.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to translate dense legal issues into actionable executive decisions.
• Must be able to work in a hybrid capacity in Seattle, New York, or San Francisco.

Nice to have

• Mix of law firm and in-house experience.
• Experience using AI to improve legal work efficiency.
• Previous in-house experience at a data center developer or cloud company.
