Corporate Counsel (AI)

Location: San Francisco, United States; work arrangement: on-site

Compensation: $225,000–$250,000 annually, plus equity and bonus opportunities

What you will do

• Draft, negotiate, and redline data acquisition, data licensing, MSA, SOW, vendor, and data processing agreements.
• Maintain contract templates, playbooks, and redline positions to improve deal-cycle speed and precision.
• Partner with Sales/GTM and Finance on deal structure, pricing terms, and contract risk tradeoffs.
• Draft and review employment agreements, contractor agreements, offer letters, and compensation and bonus plan language.
• Advise the People team on employment and labor law, worker classification, hiring, separations, leave, wage and hour, equity administration, and policy compliance.
• Triage business legal questions, coordinate with outside counsel, and support compliance projects as the company grows.

Requirements

• JD and active California bar admission.
• 3–6 years of experience spanning commercial contracts and employment law.
• Experience at a boutique technology/startup-focused or generalist business law firm; early-stage in-house experience is preferred.
• Strong independent judgment, risk assessment, written and verbal communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Hands-on individual-contributor mindset with the ability to identify matters requiring outside counsel.

Nice to have

• Experience with AI or data companies, data and technology licensing, or transactions with hyperscalers and cloud providers.
• Experience as the first or second legal hire at a startup.
• Experience with Pulley, Carta, or Gusto.
