FVP, Commercial Underwriter

Location: San Diego, CA, United States

Salary: $125,000–$175,000 per year, plus eligible discretionary cash and restricted stock unit bonus targets of 17.5% each.

What you will do

• Lead underwriting and risk assessment for complex commercial and asset-based lending transactions.
• Perform financial, cash flow, projection, collateral, borrowing base, and stress-test analyses.
• Manage analysts through diligence and underwriting; prepare and review CAMs and PICs.
• Prepare term sheets, review loan documents, coordinate collateral documentation, appraisals, and loan boarding.
• Prescreen new business, support business development officers, and recommend loans to credit committees.
• Develop analysts, credit policies, underwriting standards, collateral eligibility criteria, and borrowing base templates while ensuring audit and regulatory compliance.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field.
• At least 10 years of commercial credit underwriting experience, including large and complex loan structures.
• Deep knowledge of financial statement analysis, loan structuring, collateral evaluation, and cash flow modeling.
• Understanding of OCC, FDIC, Basel III, and internal risk-rating systems.
• Strong communication, analytical, organizational, and leadership skills.
• Proficiency with credit software platforms and Microsoft Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint.

• MBA or advanced degree.
• Experience with portfolio management and risk monitoring tools.
