Building Systems Engineer (Net Zero)

Location: Falls Church, Virginia, United States; onsite commercial building operations role

Salary: $37.02–$53.85 per hour

What you will do

• Operate, maintain, and repair Net-Zero building systems, including mechanical, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, life safety, and building automation systems.
• Conduct building walk-throughs, assess equipment condition, identify energy inefficiencies, and report deficiencies.
• Record operational readings and adjust equipment to improve efficiency and reduce energy consumption.
• Respond to HVAC and mechanical service calls by diagnosing and resolving system issues.
• Maintain site-specific SOPs incorporating energy-efficient practices, emissions reduction, and compliance requirements.
• Support the Chief Building Engineer, contractors, and consultants while coordinating vendor work and preventive maintenance.

Requirements

• 3–5 years of experience in commercial building operations.
• Universal EPA CFC Certification and OSHA 30 Certification required.
• Experience with HVAC, refrigeration, controls, mechanical systems, preventive maintenance, tools, and diagnostic instruments.
• Proficiency with BMS/EMS functionality, system sequences, and construction project-related drawings.
• Strong problem-solving, communication, customer service, and teamwork skills, with the ability to work independently.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., climb ladders and lifts, work at heights and in confined spaces, and work indoors and outdoors.

Nice to have

• Four-year degree from an accredited university.
• LEED Green Associate certification.
• Technical training in HVAC, refrigeration, controls, or mechanical systems in lieu of a degree.
