TL;DR
Lead RF PCB Layout Engineer (RF): Building and releasing RF and microwave PCB layouts for advanced radar satellites with an accent on controlled-impedance routing, stack-up definition, grounding, shielding, and RF isolation. Focus on translating schematic intent into first-spin layouts, validating RF behavior, driving DFM/DFT releases, and supporting lab bring-up and on-orbit sensor reliability.

Location: Redwood City, California, United States; hybrid workplace. ITAR eligibility is required: U.S. citizenship, U.S. lawful permanent residence, protected individual status, or eligibility to obtain the necessary U.S. Department of State authorizations.

Salary: $160,000–$200,000 per year, with flexibility between salary and equity-based compensation.

What you will do

  • Own RF PCB layout from component placement through manufacturing release in Altium Designer.
  • Define PCB stack-ups, controlled-impedance routing, grounding, shielding, and isolation strategies.
  • Translate schematics and RF performance requirements into layouts covering connector launches, transitions, filtering, and protection circuitry.
  • Collaborate with RF, electrical, antenna, mixed-signal, mechanical, and test engineers on constraints, design reviews, and first-pass risk reduction.
  • Drive DFM/DFT requirements, documentation, and manufacturing release artifacts with fabrication and assembly partners.
  • Support lab bring-up, RF characterization, qualification, and environmental testing from prototype through final hardware.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field with 8+ years of relevant experience.
  • Experience with PCB layout, fabrication, and release for RF or high-performance electronics.
  • Experience with RF and microwave layouts, controlled-impedance routing, launches, transitions, grounding, shielding, and isolation.
  • Strong understanding of coupling, return paths, leakage, spurious paths, and stability risks in layout-driven RF behavior.
  • Experience with manufacturing release, DFM/DFT, and collaboration with fabrication and assembly partners.
  • Strong teamwork, communication, self-direction, accountability, and ability to work under significant time constraints.

Nice to have

  • Experience with Allegro or OrCAD.
  • Experience with EM and RF analysis workflows such as HFSS, CST, or ADS Momentum.
  • Experience troubleshooting VNA, spectrum analyzer, and system-test results.
