TL;DR
Postdoctoral Research Associate (Environmental Health): Conducting advanced research on the health impacts of combined air pollution and temperature mixtures, including exposure modeling, comparative risk assessment, and multi-country dataset integration with an accent on policy-relevant interventions and population-level health impacts. Focus on building scenario-based exposure models, analyzing distributional effects across population subgroups, and coordinating interdisciplinary consortium activities.

Location: Bryan, Texas, or another TTI urban office in Austin, Dallas, El Paso, Fort Worth, Houston, Laredo, or San Antonio, Texas. Onsite work is required for the first 30 days; afterward, a hybrid schedule with two days per week in a TTI Texas-based office may be available.

What you will do

  • Conduct advanced research modeling the health impacts of combined air pollution and temperature mixtures.
  • Perform atmospheric and source-receptor air pollution modeling for policy interventions and exposure scenarios.
  • Compile, harmonize, and manage multi-country exposure, census, demographic, and health datasets.
  • Conduct comparative risk assessments, spatial integration, and analysis of health impacts across population subgroups.
  • Map stakeholders, support workshops, and co-create intervention and scenario pathways with international partners.
  • Coordinate consortium activities, track milestones and deliverables, and prepare publications, reports, policy briefs, and stakeholder materials.

Requirements

  • PhD in environmental epidemiology, environmental health, exposure assessment, health impact assessment, or a closely related field.
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills, including statistical programming with R, Python, or similar tools.
  • Knowledge of causal inference methods and/or comparative risk assessment approaches.
  • Familiarity with air pollution, temperature, and other environmental exposures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex findings to diverse audiences.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in an interdisciplinary and international environment.

Nice to have

  • Expertise in quantitative data analysis and statistical modeling.
  • Experience with large, complex, multidimensional datasets.
  • Experience with spatial analysis, geospatial data integration, and GIS tools such as ArcGIS or QGIS.
