Energy Engineer (Industrial Refrigeration)

Location: Lyndhurst, VA, USA. The role includes occasional customer energy audits, facility walkthroughs, equipment inspections, and work in industrial sites, loud mechanical rooms, and cold storage areas with appropriate PPE.

What you will do

• Develop energy models and analyze new and existing refrigeration systems to identify efficiency opportunities.
• Evaluate system performance data, identify deficiencies, and recommend practical, cost-effective improvements.
• Support the development and implementation of energy conservation measures and energy-efficient system designs.
• Advise customers on energy best practices and deliver energy-efficiency training.
• Conduct occasional site assessments, facility walkthroughs, and equipment inspections.
• Prepare performance reports, utility rebate documentation, and regulatory compliance materials while monitoring relevant energy codes and technologies.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field preferred.
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret system performance data.
• Effective communication and collaboration skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, and technical software tools.
• Ability to remain seated or standing for extended periods and occasionally lift or carry items up to 25 pounds.
• Ability to work in industrial environments, including loud mechanical rooms and cold storage areas, using appropriate PPE.

Nice to have

• Interest in energy efficiency, sustainability, or industrial system optimization.
• Familiarity with industrial refrigeration or HVAC systems.
• Experience with ENERGY STAR tools, utility benchmarking, or energy reporting.
• Knowledge of energy codes, regulatory requirements, or sustainability reporting.
• PE, CEM, or similar professional certification.
