Engineering Manager (Data Platform)

Location: New York City, hybrid

Salary: $225,000–$260,000 base salary annually, plus annual bonus, company equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Lead and coach a team of 4–6 data platform engineers, supporting performance, growth, hiring, and retention.
• Own the platform roadmap with Product and the Head of Data, translating ambiguous business needs into sequenced delivery plans.
• Set architecture direction, review designs, and contribute hands-on to the codebase and data pipelines.
• Run production operations, including reliability, SLAs, on-call health, incident response, warehouse cost, and governance.
• Partner with DS/ML, forward-deployed engineering, customer-facing teams, executives, and enterprise customers.
• Build an AI-native engineering culture by integrating Claude Code and similar tools into development, review, and operations.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in data or backend engineering, including 2+ years managing engineers and owning delivery, performance management, and hiring outcomes.
• Current hands-on engineering capability, including coding and systems design for warehouses, orchestration, and pipeline failure modes.
• Production data platform experience with Snowflake or a similar warehouse, Temporal/Airflow or similar orchestration, and SQLMesh/dbt or similar transformation frameworks.
• Experience building or scaling an engineering team, including hiring, developing people, and handling difficult personnel decisions.
• Strong stakeholder management skills and comfort working in lean teams with shifting priorities.
• Ability to work in a hybrid role based in New York City.

Nice to have

• Healthcare data experience with EHR integrations, claims such as 837/835, HL7/FHIR, and PHI/HIPAA constraints.
• Experience with warehouse cost management, RBAC/governance, or vendors such as Snowflake and Fivetran.
• Prior player-coach experience at Series A–C companies.
