Engineering Manager (AI)

Location: Fully remote, with the role listed in São Paulo, Mexico City, Florianópolis, Montevideo, and Belo Horizonte

Salary: $120,000–$140,000 USD annually as a contractor, depending on experience

What you will do

• Lead cross-functional delivery teams of 4–5 engineers and report to the Head of Engineering.
• Create and maintain concrete growth plans for every individual contributor.
• Ensure predictable delivery by managing scope, surfacing risks early, and maintaining quality.
• Address team conflict and underperformance directly while protecting and developing strong performers.
• Partner with Product, Design, Quality Engineering, Architecture, and Security from estimation through release.
• Guide system design, identify architectural risks, and introduce AI tools for code review, documentation, planning, and debugging.

Requirements

• Previous experience leading fully remote engineering teams as the default operating model.
• Demonstrated experience developing people, creating career plans, handling difficult conversations, and managing underperformance through a structured process.
• Strong written and asynchronous communication skills for distributed teams.
• Ability to use velocity, retention risk, and individual-contributor growth metrics to guide decisions.
• Technical credibility through code reviews, architectural input, and debugging support.
• Deep, hands-on adoption of AI workflows and tools such as Claude or Copilot is required.
