Senior Software Engineer, Inference (AI)

Location: Chicago, United States

Salary: $190,000–$225,000 per year for candidates in the U.S.; the range may vary outside the U.S.

Builds voice AI models and APIs powering speech-to-text, speech understanding, streaming audio, and other voice applications at large scale.

What you will do

• Design and ship customer-facing APIs exposing new model capabilities from prototype through launch and ongoing iteration.
• Scale inference infrastructure to support more than 1 million API users.
• Partner with researchers to productionize new techniques and transform notebooks or proofs of concept into reliable production systems.
• Optimize latency, reliability, and API ergonomics for customer-facing services.
• Work with customers and Applied teams to inform product design and research direction.
• Contribute across backend services, inference infrastructure, SDKs, and internal tooling.

Requirements

• Strong backend engineering experience.
• Experience building and supporting machine learning infrastructure and/or customer-facing APIs in production.
• Curiosity about AI and machine learning, with the ability to understand model behavior well enough to make sound engineering decisions.
• Comfort working with ambiguity across research and product timelines.
• Strong collaboration skills with researchers, applied engineers, and customers.
• Ability to work in or be based in Chicago, United States.
