Project Engineer (PE) - Solid Waste

Location: Richmond, Virginia; position based out of Virginia or North Carolina locations

Salary: USD $80,000–$106,059 per year

What you will do

• Design and permit landfills, transfer stations, convenience centers, recycling facilities, materials recovery facilities, and composting operations.
• Prepare engineering details, grading plans, stormwater calculations, technical reports, and permit applications.
• Develop landfill gas collection and control systems, leachate systems, closure plans, and post-closure care programs.
• Support construction planning, construction management, quality assurance, landfill operations, and project management.
• Perform capacity analysis, facility siting, odor assessment, air monitoring, and renewable or waste-to-energy system design.
• Support project teams while mentoring and training junior staff across multiple projects.

Requirements

• Professional Engineer license required; Virginia licensure required within six months.
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering.
• 5–10 years of landfill design and solid waste experience.
• Excellent written, oral, interpersonal, technical, and computer skills.
• Ability to work in a team environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
• Valid driver’s license required.

Nice to have

• North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, or Florida PE licenses.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
• Experience with stormwater management, erosion and sediment control, drainage design, wetland permitting, facility operations, and construction quality assurance.
