Project Engineer (PE) - Solid Waste

Location: Blacksburg, Virginia; the position is based out of a Virginia or North Carolina location.

Salary: USD $80,000–$106,059 per year

What you will do

• Prepare engineering designs, detailed plans, land grading, stormwater calculations, reports, and permit applications.
• Design and permit landfills, transfer stations, convenience centers, materials recovery facilities, recycling centers, and composting operations.
• Develop and support landfill gas collection and control systems, landfill leachate systems, closure plans, and post-closure care programs.
• Provide construction planning, construction oversight, quality assurance, and project management support.
• Support landfill operations, capacity analysis, facility siting, and waste-to-energy projects.
• Mentor and train junior staff while supporting multiple projects in a team environment.

Requirements

• Professional Engineer license required; Virginia licensure is required within six months.
• 5–10 years of landfill design or solid waste experience required.
• Strong written, oral, interpersonal, technical, and computer skills.
• Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and collaborate in a team environment.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD and Civil 3D is preferred.

Nice to have

• Experience with North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, or Florida professional engineering licenses.
• Experience in site planning, stormwater management, erosion and sediment control, drainage design, and grading plans.
• Experience with wetland permitting, odor mitigation, air monitoring, renewable energy, anaerobic digestion, or biogas systems.
