Senior Engineer (PE) - Solid Waste

Location: Blacksburg, Virginia; the position may report to offices in Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, or Georgia.

Salary: USD $110,000–$153,213 per year, plus potential participation in an annual discretionary bonus program.

What you will do

• Design and permit landfills, transfer stations, convenience centers, materials recovery facilities, recycling centers, and composting facilities.
• Prepare engineering details, grading plans, stormwater calculations, reports, permit applications, and construction documentation.
• Design and manage landfill leachate collection, treatment, and management systems.
• Design and troubleshoot landfill gas collection and control systems, including well-field tuning, blower and flare stations, plant operations, and Title V emissions reporting.
• Perform landfill capacity analysis, closure and post-closure planning, facility operations support, odor assessment, and air monitoring.
• Support project management, construction management, quality assurance, team delivery, and mentoring of junior staff.

Requirements

• Professional Engineer license in Virginia is required within six months; licenses in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, and Florida may be required in the future.
• At least 7 years of experience in solid waste engineering, site planning, stormwater management, erosion and sediment control, drainage design, and grading plans.
• At least 5 years of landfill design and permitting experience.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
• Strong written, oral, interpersonal, technical, and computer skills, with the ability to work across multiple projects.
• Valid driver’s license required.
