Lead Architect, Database and Data Platform

Location: Hartford, Connecticut, United States

Annual base salary: $169,400–$279,600, plus eligibility for performance-based cash incentives.

What you will do

• Define enterprise database migration and modernization strategies across SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, MongoDB, and cloud-managed database services.
• Design migration sequencing, reference architectures, database engineering standards, disaster recovery, automated failover, backup validation, and resiliency frameworks.
• Architect data platform solutions across ingestion, storage, processing, transformation, and consumption layers in hybrid and cloud environments.
• Design AWS block, file, object, and archive storage architectures, including EBS, EFS, FSx, S3, Glacier, Backup, access controls, replication, and cost optimization.
• Develop FinOps practices, IaC standards, SLAs/SLOs, platform reliability practices, and security controls for data workloads.
• Partner with business and technology stakeholders, mentor engineers and DBAs, and provide technical leadership for modernization initiatives.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, a related STEM or technology field, or equivalent experience.
• At least 7 additional years of architecture or software engineering experience, with 8–10 years of architecture experience preferred.
• At least 2 years of technical leadership experience.
• Advanced architecture expertise and recent hands-on engineering experience with modern technologies.
• Experience developing technology target states and roadmaps, supporting transformational change, and executing complex large-scale technology strategies.
• Strong collaboration, communication, decision-making, mentoring, and insurance industry knowledge; insurance technology experience is preferred.
